GBS up date and More

Don't you love my picture.  That's about the truth when you know someone has chocolate.  I'm staying positive today.  Sometimes it's hard with everyone else doing their thing and you are unable at this time to do yours.

Jim is putting down the flooring in the kitchen and let me tell you it is looking very good.  We really got a good deal.  It's going to  make such a difference in the kitchen.

My GBS, not that I want to call it mine !  I am waiting for it go,  leave and never come back.  I have improved this morning walking with the walker.  I was taking a step at a time but now I am able to walk with the walker.  It's a little confusing.  I didn't realize it until my Jim pointed it out.  That really is a big deal and gets me closer to walking on my own.  Oh, I hope it is soon as there is so much I want to do.

Get my kitchen in order.  Really both kitchens.  You see I do have two kitchens.  When we  first moved here we started out in a school bus.  The back of the bus is our bedroom.  The middle or center is bathroom with tub and a hall way going by it and  the front of the bus is a kitchen.  I have cupboards and a motor home stove.  It has a double sink and some counter space.  I even have had various tables up there and for about 10 years it has  worked out great.  Now I am putting it back together and placing the extra stuff, you know, like appliances I don't use all the time and large things I don't have a place for in my down stairs Kitchen in this Kitchen.  I'm very anxious to get started on it.

Once he gets the downstairs Kitchen done.  Getting floor done, and he is building me a counter with shelves and putting shelves beside the stove.  Then I can organize my food and dishes and appliances so they are handy to get to.  I also have a china closet in the downstairs kitchen that I am moving to the screened in porch.  I'm going to put all my tea sets in it.  I do keep the screened in porch very nice so it will  look good out there.  It belonged to my MOM.  I was with her when she bought it at Sears in Sacramento.  No, it's not real fancy, she bought it to put her set of china in, as my brother was in the Navy and stationed in Japan.

You see, when you come down out of the bus you walk into our living room.  On one side of it is the kitchen and the other side is a screened  in porch.  The kitchen at one time was a porch but we have enclosed it for my kitchen downstairs.  I will be taking pictures of all the rooms.

We are suppose to have a warming up trend.  I am counting on it.  I do not like the cold weather.  No it doesn't snow here but getting down to 34' is very, very cold.  The end of the week it's suppose to be in the 40's at night.  Of course,  I would rather have 50' to 60' and hopefully that will come soon.

Flooring & Road Trip

More on GBS and fixing up our home

The last day of February.  What a month it has been.  I have made a lot of improvement as far as taking care of myself.  I use the walker to go to bathroom, my Jim, is with me but i handle myself inside.  That is a big step for sure.  I'm just not secure enough yet to be on my own yet with walker.

I did go to grocery store with Jim yesterday.  That was fun.  It's interesting how different people react to someone in wheelchair.  Yes, when I am out and about I use the chair otherwise I get way too tired.

Today we are getting flooring for our kitchen.  My Jim found it  on Craigs list.  So off we go for a road trip.  Will take pictures. Tootles

Guillian Barre Syndrome

Hello !  If anyone out there is interested and would like to ask questions about GBS, I would be happy to help.

On December 23rd, 2016 I knew It was coming for the 4th time in my life.  I prayed it wouldn't and had had it start symptoms then just go away.  On December 24th, 2016 my Husband Jim and half of my family took me to Enloe Hospital in Chico, Ca.  I was admitted on Christmas Eve and stayed for 10 days.

I wish I knew why I keep getting this disease, illness, sickness, or syndrome.  What ever you want to call it I DO NOT want it again !  Please.

What happens from the beginning...

It starts in your feet.  They tingle, like they feel when you have sat on them too long.  But this tingle just  keeps getting worse.  At first it's like you have a hundred needles in your feet.  As each hour goes by a hundred more needles come in your feet until they feel like a solid chrome pipe.  Now as this is happening in your feet it is also going up your legs, your torso, your arms, and worse in your hands.  In the back of your head, top of your head, your face and inside your mouth.  You can't control your arms as they seem  to have a mind of there own and are flying all over the place.  Your voice has taken on a slow hollow sound and you can see it in the reaction of the faces of family, friends and Nurses. It's a nightmare.  You have become dead weight.  No longer able to even turn over in bed. As for bathroom privileges, Your best friend is the bed pan unless you have a strong loving husband like my Jim. I was able to use both. Nor are you able to feed yourself.  Remember I said your arms have a mind of there own, I'm not kidding.  You must take small bites and chew and swallow careful.  This last time I had the added pleasure of also having pneumonia.  So I wasn't allowed to eat for 6 days.  Something about the back of my tongue not closing like it was suppose to.  When I did get to eat it was called  "A Puree Diet."  The mashed potatoes were wonderful, I have always loved them.  Now as for Chicken Pureed or Salmon Purred or even green beans.....OMG let the gagging began.

This lasts for a couple weeks to several weeks as it seems to level out and GOD willing starts the process of reversing and leaving your weaken, shrunken body.  You have lost all your muscles especially in your legs, well everywhere really and now it's time to start exercising and to get motivated to do all you can to bring yourself back or even make yourself better, stronger then you were before.

I am happy to say this is where I am right now.  I have been able to walk with a walker. My Jim is right behind me with his strong hands on each side of my waist.  My balance is not quite where it should be yet so I need the assurance of those hands.

As I stated in the beginning this is the forth time I have had GBS.
The first time was in 1977.  I was 29, pregnant with my forth child and was  living in Leon, Kansas.
The second time was in 1986, I was living in Live Oak, Ca. just started a new job, Librarian at Middle School.    The third time was in 1997, living in same house and town.  The forth and final time I'm living in the country in Gridley, Ca. I'm 68, and will be 69 March 9th.   Crazy !

Working Hard !

Exercising every other day. I have a positive  attitude. I do hope I improve but I am luckier then a lot of people. Thank the Lord God.  Pr...
